Our bug tracker is now open to the public!
We just made our internal bug tracker public. The rationale is that you are all paying customers and deserve to know what I’m working on for Crate and planning to release soon in the future. Involving our customers (you, hopefully…) will help me build a better product.
You’ll need a Trello account (it’s free), and then you’ll be able to vote and comment on everything we have listed. If you don’t see something that you’d like us to add, just email us at hi@letscrate.com, or mention us on Twitter, and we’ll add it as promptly as possible.
Here’s the link: https://trello.com/board/web-application/502ba46df24e74014b65fa17
This is our feedback forum for our users to submit feature requests, bug reports, and other ideas. Enjoy!
Updates: Locking Crates and Per-file Purchasing
Just wanted to give everyone a little update on features and bug fixes.
- For files that are over their bandwidth cap, you can now opt to pay a nominal amount to download the file anyways. Prices start at $0.25. Here’s an example link: http://lts.cr/BfsH
- You can now lock crates.
Everything else is sailing along, please email us at hi@letscrate.com if you have any questions.
Weekly Update: Private Crates + Bug Fixes
Over the last week, we added 5 improvements and fixed 3 bugs. Here they are:

- Added ability to share crates with short URLs
- Turned on short URLs for everybody (not just plus + pro users)
- Improved copy/messaging for AppSumo users on plans section of settings
- Fixed a bug where files with spaces returned a 404
- Fixed a bug where unicode codes were redirected incorrectly
- Fixed a bug where AppSumo users were redirected to the wrong location after logging in
- Spruced up the 509 bandwidth exceeded page
As always, contact us over Twitter or email if you have any questions or issues.
Weekly Update: site statistics, bug fixes, and lts.cr
This is something we’re going to start to do every week, just to keep everyone in the loop. We want to be 100% transparent with how we’re running the site, and want our customers to know exactly what’s going on behind the scenes.
We added 4 new features and fixed 4 bugs. Here they are:
- Sitewide statistics are now available in the footer.
- When logged in, account type and other information is also shown in the footer.
- Fixed a bug where some files would display “Access Denied”.
- Fixed a bug where users with old accounts couldn’t log into the new site.
- Fixed a bug where users couldn’t share files on Facebook correctly.
- Fixed some broken links with old lts.cr short URLs.
- Added back lts.cr short URLs.
- Created nicer-looking 404 and 403 error pages.
As always, contact us over Twitter or email if you have any questions or issues.
Crate+
Over the past few months, our team has been judiciously testing a new, faster, speedier, and more cost-efficient backend for the infrastructure that powers Crate.
In the process of cleaning up the code behind our web application (both backend and frontend), we have made the entire site faster and more fault-tolerant.
Some of the features include:
- Much larger practical file size limit (5TB). To our knowledge, no other file-sharing site on the Internet supports files this large (except Amazon S3, of course, upon which our service is backed :) ).
- 256-bit SSL encryption from end-to-end for both uploads and downloads, for everyone you share files with. This has been our most requested feature for corporate environments.
- Much speedier uploads.
- More social features baked into the core of the site.
- Upload-to-email feature for Pro members.
We’ve also made some big changes to our pricing. In a move that may shock the world, we have decided to axe our free plan. You can read more about this decision on our plans page.
To make this transition easier for existing free users, we have absolutely slashed our pricing, from 80%-90% of their previous values.
- Basic plan is now $10 / year (from $48)
- Plus plan is now $20 / year (from $144)
- Pro plan (previously “awesome”) is now $50 / year (from $720)
We hope you enjoy the new changes, and look forward to helping people share files on the Internet for a long time to come.
As always, if you have any issues, please contact us at hi@letscrate.com.
FAQ
What this means for AppSumo Lifetime users
All of you are locked in for 10GB storage, for life. Since we introduced transfer pricing, all AppSumo users will additionally get 1GB transfer per month for free. Past that threshold, you can choose to enter a credit card and we will continue serving your files. Each GB transferred past 1GB will cost $0.50 / GB / month.
Existing Paid users
Since our new plans don’t transfer over from the old plans (and they are a lot less expensive!), we have cancelled subscriptions to our old plans (and have refunded for time that you didn’t pay for). If you’d like to continue using Crate, just re-subscribe on the plans page and you should be good to go!
